And he went on to say to Zadok, "Look, take your son Ahimaaz and Abiathar's son Jonathan and go back to the city in peace.

The priests Zadok and Abiathar will be there; tell them everything you hear in the king's palace.

Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were priests; Seraiah was the court secretary;

Sheva was the court secretary; Zadok and Abiathar were the priests,

But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and David's bodyguards were not on Adonijah's side.

The king made Benaiah commander of the army in Joab's place and put Zadok the priest in Abiathar's place.

and these were his high officials: The priest: Azariah son of Zadok

Commander of the army: Benaiah son of Jehoiada Priests: Zadok and Abiathar

Zadok, Ahimaaz,

Azariah (the one who served in the Temple which King Solomon built in Jerusalem),

Zadok, Shallum,

This holy area is to be for the priests who are descendants of Zadok. They served me faithfully and did not join the rest of the Israelites in doing wrong, as the other members of the tribe of Levi did.

After the men carrying the Covenant Box had gone six steps, David had them stop while he offered the LORD a sacrifice of a bull and a fattened calf.

When it is time to break camp, the clan of Kohath shall come to carry the sacred objects only after Aaron and his sons have finished covering them and all their equipment. The Kohath clan must not touch the sacred objects, or they will die. These are the responsibilities of the Kohath clan whenever the Tent is moved.

But Moses gave no wagons or oxen to the Kohathites, because the sacred objects they took care of had to be carried on their shoulders.

and told the people, "When you see the priests carrying the Covenant Box of the LORD your God, break camp and follow them.

Then he told the priests to take the Covenant Box and go with it ahead of the people. They did as he said.

While the people walked across on dry ground, the priests carrying the LORD's Covenant Box stood on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan until all the people had crossed over.

to command the priests carrying the Covenant Box to come up out of the Jordan.

and when the priests reached the riverbank, the river began flowing once more and flooded its banks again.

Seven priests, each carrying a trumpet, are to go in front of the Covenant Box. On the seventh day you and your soldiers are to march around the city seven times while the priests blow the trumpets.

Joshua called the priests and told them, "Take the Covenant Box, and seven of you go in front of it, carrying trumpets."

When the survivors came back to camp, the leaders of Israel said, "Why did the LORD let the Philistines defeat us today? Let's go and bring the LORD's Covenant Box from Shiloh, so that he will go with us and save us from our enemies."

When the Covenant Box arrived, the Israelites gave such a loud shout of joy that the earth shook.

Then he said, "Only Levites should carry the Covenant Box, because they are the ones the LORD chose to carry it and to serve him forever."
