David said to God, "I have committed a terrible sin in doing this! Please forgive me. I have acted foolishly."

David saw the angel who was killing the people, and said to the LORD, "I am the guilty one. I am the one who did wrong. What have these poor people done? You should punish me and my family."

I have sinned against you---only against you--- and done what you consider evil. So you are right in judging me; you are justified in condemning me.

I will forgive all the wrongs you have done, but you will remember them and be too ashamed to open your mouth." The Sovereign LORD has spoken.

Micaiah answered, "I can see the army of Israel scattered over the hills like sheep without a shepherd. And the LORD said, 'These men have no leader; let them go home in peace.' "

You allowed us to be slaughtered like sheep; you scattered us in foreign countries.

On another occasion the LORD was angry with Israel, and he made David bring trouble on them. The LORD said to him, "Go and count the people of Israel and Judah."

And now, sir, I will stay here as your slave in place of the boy; let him go back with his brothers.

Please forgive their sin; but if you won't, then remove my name from the book in which you have written the names of your people."

The LORD answered, "It is those who have sinned against me whose names I will remove from my book.

"I am the good shepherd, who is willing to die for the sheep.

When the hired man, who is not a shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees a wolf coming, he leaves the sheep and runs away; so the wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them.

for my people, my own flesh and blood! For their sake I could wish that I myself were under God's curse and separated from Christ.

This is how we know what love is: Christ gave his life for us. We too, then, ought to give our lives for others!

Do not bow down to any idol or worship it, because I am the LORD your God and I tolerate no rivals. I bring punishment on those who hate me and on their descendants down to the third and fourth generation.

Now, in every generation some of your descendants will die a violent death because you have disobeyed me and have taken Uriah's wife.

Spare my life, O God, and save me, and I will gladly proclaim your righteousness.

Some of your own direct descendants will be taken away and made eunuchs to serve in the palace of the king of Babylonia."

King Hezekiah understood this to mean that there would be peace and security during his lifetime, so he replied, "The message you have given me from the LORD is good."

Are you going to refuse to follow him now? If you rebel against the LORD today, he will be angry with everyone in Israel tomorrow.
