And it came to pass, after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal Hazor, which [is] near Ephraim; so Absalom invited all the king's sons.

[that] in the third year of his reign he made a feast for all his officials and servants -- the powers of Persia and Media, the nobles, and the princes of the provinces [being] before him --

And when these days were completed, the king made a feast lasting seven days for all the people who were present in Shushan the citadel, from great to small, in the court of the garden of the king's palace.

And they served drinks in golden vessels, each vessel being different from the other, with royal wine in abundance, according to the generosity of the king.

Then He also said to him who invited Him, "When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid.

Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, "Watch now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, 'Strike Amnon!' then kill him. Do not be afraid. Have I not commanded you? Be courageous and valiant."

So they went out at noon. Meanwhile Ben-Hadad and the thirty-two kings helping him were getting drunk at the command post.

Wine [is] a mocker, Strong drink [is] a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise.

Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes?

Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, [When] it swirls around smoothly;

Your eyes will see strange things, And your heart will utter perverse things.

"They have struck me, [but] I was not hurt; They have beaten me, but I did not feel [it.] When shall I awake, that I may seek another [drink?"]

I said of laughter -- "Madness!"; and of mirth, "What does it accomplish?"

I searched in my heart [how] to gratify my flesh with wine, while guiding my heart with wisdom, and how to lay hold on folly, till I might see what [was] good for the sons of men to do under heaven all the days of their lives.

A feast is made for laughter, And wine makes merry; But money answers everything.

The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, Will be trampled underfoot;

But they also have erred through wine, And through intoxicating drink are out of the way; The priest and the prophet have erred through intoxicating drink, They are swallowed up by wine, They are out of the way through intoxicating drink; They err in vision, they stumble [in] judgment.

For all tables are full of vomit [and] filth; No place [is clean.]

"And I will make drunk Her princes and wise men, Her governors, her deputies, and her mighty men. And they shall sleep a perpetual sleep And not awake," says the King, Whose name [is] the LORD of hosts.

Belshazzar the king made a great feast for a thousand of his lords, and drank wine in the presence of the thousand.

Then they brought the gold vessels that had been taken from the temple of the house of God which [had been] in Jerusalem; and the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines drank from them.

In the same hour the fingers of a man's hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king's palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

For while tangled [like] thorns, And while drunken [like] drunkards, They shall be devoured like stubble fully dried.

" Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbor, Pressing [him to] your bottle, Even to make [him] drunk, That you may look on his nakedness!

You are filled with shame instead of glory. You also -- drink! And be exposed as uncircumcised! The cup of the LORD's right hand [will be] turned against you, And utter shame will be on your glory.

" But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.

Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,

For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.

But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and [as] a helmet the hope of salvation.

And she said to her servants, "Go on before me; see, I am coming after you." But she did not tell her husband Nabal.

A good man deals graciously and lends; He will guide his affairs with discretion.

" Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light."
