So Samuel said to him, "The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, [who is] better than you.

"since the time that I commanded judges [to be] over My people Israel, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also the LORD tells you that He will make you a house.

"And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever." ' "

"For You, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, have revealed [this] to Your servant, saying, 'I will build you a house.' Therefore Your servant has found it in his heart to pray this prayer to You.

"then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised David your father, saying, 'You shall not fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.'

"since the time that I commanded judges [to be] over My people Israel. Also I will subdue all your enemies. Furthermore I tell you that the LORD will build you a house.

"For You, O my God, have revealed to Your servant that You will build him a house. Therefore Your servant has found it [in his heart] to pray before You.

His seed also I will make [to endure] forever, And his throne as the days of heaven.

"Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle [is] the LORD's, and He will give you into our hands."

Then Saul said to David, "Here is my older daughter Merab; I will give her to you as a wife. Only be valiant for me, and fight the LORD's battles." For Saul thought, "Let my hand not be against him, but let the hand of the Philistines be against him."

"Also, in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the LORD said to you, 'You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over Israel.' "

And he said, "Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the LORD to you: 'Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle [is] not yours, but God's.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

And he said to his men, "The LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the LORD's anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he [is] the anointed of the LORD."

So David restrained his servants with [these] words, and did not allow them to rise against Saul. And Saul got up from the cave and went on [his] way.

"Moreover, my father, see! Yes, see the corner of your robe in my hand! For in that I cut off the corner of your robe, and did not kill you, know and see that [there is] neither evil nor rebellion in my hand, and I have not sinned against you. Yet you hunt my life to take it.

Then he said to David: "You [are] more righteous than I; for you have rewarded me with good, whereas I have rewarded you with evil.

because David did [what was] right in the eyes of the LORD, and had not turned aside from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

Blessed [are] the undefiled in the way, Who walk in the law of the LORD!

They also do no iniquity; They walk in His ways.

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

"And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong."

So when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, "Certainly this was a righteous Man!"
