Now the sons of Eli [were] corrupt; they did not know the LORD.

Then the people said to Samuel, "Who [is] he who said, 'Shall Saul reign over us?' Bring the men, that we may put them to death."

'Corrupt men have gone out from among you and enticed the inhabitants of their city, saying, "Let us go and serve other gods" ' -- which you have not known --

And there happened to be there a rebel, whose name [was] Sheba the son of Bichri, a Benjamite. And he blew a trumpet, and said: "We have no share in David, Nor do we have inheritance in the son of Jesse; Every man to his tents, O Israel!"

"Then worthless rogues gathered to him, and strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and inexperienced and could not withstand them.

"This Moses whom they rejected, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge?' is the one God sent [to be] a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the Angel who appeared to him in the bush.

" [You] stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers [did,] so [do] you.

"Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers,

Then he defeated Moab. Forcing them down to the ground, he measured them off with a line. With two lines he measured off those to be put to death, and with one full line those to be kept alive. So the Moabites became David's servants, [and] brought tribute.

So Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the River [to] the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. [They] brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.

Each man brought his present: articles of silver and gold, garments, armor, spices, horses, and mules, at a set rate year by year.

Therefore the LORD established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah gave presents to Jehoshaphat, and he had riches and honor in abundance.

The kings of Tarshish and of the isles Will bring presents; The kings of Sheba and Seba Will offer gifts.

And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

But I, like a deaf [man,] do not hear; And [I am] like a mute [who] does not open his mouth.

But they held their peace and answered him not a word; for the king's commandment was, "Do not answer him."

And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing.

But He answered him not one word, so that the governor marveled greatly.
