[and] will receive the wages of unrighteousness, [as] those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. [They are] spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you,

having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. [They have] a heart trained in covetous practices, [and are] accursed children.

For in eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of [others;] and one is hungry and another is drunk.

What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise [you.]

So they ate and were well filled, For He gave them their own desire.

The wrath of God came against them, And slew the stoutest of them, And struck down the choice [men] of Israel.

His watchmen [are] blind, They are all ignorant; They [are] all dumb dogs, They cannot bark; Sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.

"Come," [one says,] "I will bring wine, And we will fill ourselves with intoxicating drink; Tomorrow will be as today, [And] much more abundant."

"[as] I live," says the Lord GOD, "surely because My flock became a prey, and My flock became food for every beast of the field, because [there was] no shepherd, nor did My shepherds search for My flock, but the shepherds fed themselves and did not feed My flock" --

"[Is it] too little for you to have eaten up the good pasture, that you must tread down with your feet the residue of your pasture -- and to have drunk of the clear waters, that you must foul the residue with your feet?

'And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, [and] be merry." '

"But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?'

"But if that servant says in his heart, 'My master is delaying his coming,' and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk,

" There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.

" But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.

whose end [is] destruction, whose god [is their] belly, and [whose] glory [is] in their shame -- who set their mind on earthly things.

Therefore let us not sleep, as others [do,] but let us watch and be sober.

For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.

You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter.

Whoever falsely boasts of giving [Is like] clouds and wind without rain.

" O Ephraim, what shall I do to you? O Judah, what shall I do to you? For your faithfulness is like a morning cloud, And like the early dew it goes away.

These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,

He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb.

"But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away.

And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, "Let no fruit grow on you ever again." Immediately the fig tree withered away.

And when the disciples saw [it,] they marveled, saying, "How did the fig tree wither away so soon?"

"But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away.

And Peter, remembering, said to Him, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away."

"Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture.

"Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

"If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw [them] into the fire, and they are burned.

But she who lives in pleasure is dead while she lives.

For [it is] impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,

if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put [Him] to an open shame.

but if it bears thorns and briars, [it is] rejected and near to being cursed, whose end [is] to be burned.

For when they speak great swelling [words] of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error.

For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.

"then I will uproot them from My land which I have given them; and this house which I have sanctified for My name I will cast out of My sight, and will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

" Say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Will it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots, Cut off its fruit, And leave it to wither? All of its spring leaves will wither, And no great power or many people Will be needed to pluck it up by its roots.

But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.

Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
