" If there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of the gates in your land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother,

"Beware lest there be a wicked thought in your heart, saying, 'The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand,' and your eye be evil against your poor brother and you give him nothing, and he cry out to the LORD against you, and it become sin among you.

"For the poor will never cease from the land; therefore I command you, saying, 'You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy, in your land.'

He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, And He will pay back what he has given.

[Is it] not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh?

Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, 'Here I [am.'] "If you take away the yoke from your midst, The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,

He answered and said to them, "He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise."

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

but by an equality, [that] now at this time your abundance [may supply] their lack, that their abundance also may supply your lack -- that there may be equality.

As it is written, "He who [gathered] much had nothing left over, and he who [gathered] little had no lack."

Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren to go to you ahead of time, and prepare your generous gift beforehand, which [you had] previously promised, that it may be ready as [a matter of] generosity and not as a grudging obligation.

[So let] each one [give] as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

As it is written: "He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever."

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.

[Let them] do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share,

But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

A righteous [man] regards the life of his animal, But the tender mercies of the wicked [are] cruel.

One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer [is] an abomination.

If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him.
