"Then I and all the people who [are] with me will approach the city; and it will come about, when they come out against us as at the first, that we shall flee before them.

So all the people who [were] in Ai were called together to pursue them. And they pursued Joshua and were drawn away from the city.

And ten thousand select men from all Israel came against Gibeah, and the battle was fierce. But [the Benjamites] did not know that disaster [was] upon them.

So the children of Benjamin saw that they were defeated. The men of Israel had given ground to the Benjamites, because they relied on the men in ambush whom they had set against Gibeah.

For man also does not know his time: Like fish taken in a cruel net, Like birds caught in a snare, So the sons of men [are] snared in an evil time, When it falls suddenly upon them.

Surely the princes of Zoan [are] fools; Pharaoh's wise counselors give foolish counsel. How do you say to Pharaoh, "I [am] the son of the wise, The son of ancient kings?"

The princes of Zoan have become fools; The princes of Noph are deceived; They have also deluded Egypt, [Those who are] the mainstay of its tribes.

But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you.

For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.

By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.
