"Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed My covenant which I commanded them. For they have even taken some of the accursed things, and have both stolen and deceived; and they have also put [it] among their own stuff.

"Get up, sanctify the people, and say, 'Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, because thus says the LORD God of Israel: "[There is] an accursed thing in your midst, O Israel; you cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the accursed thing from among you."

"And you, by all means abstain from the accursed things, lest you become accursed when you take of the accursed things, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.

Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, "You have troubled me by making me obnoxious among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and since I [am] few in number, they will gather themselves together against me and kill me. I shall be destroyed, my household and I."

Then it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, "[Is that] you, O troubler of Israel?"

And he answered, "I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father's house [have,] in that you have forsaken the commandments of the LORD and have followed the Baals.

The son of Carmi [was] Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the accursed thing.

" Will not all these take up a proverb against him, And a taunting riddle against him, and say, 'Woe to him who increases [What] is not his -- how long? And to him who loads himself with many pledges'?

Because you have plundered many nations, All the remnant of the people shall plunder you, Because of men's blood And the violence of the land [and] the city, And of all who dwell in it.

I could wish that those who trouble you would even cut themselves off!

since [it is] a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you,

looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;

"Again, you shall say to the children of Israel: 'Whoever of the children of Israel, or of the strangers who dwell in Israel, who gives [any] of his descendants to Molech, he shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones.

"Take outside the camp him who has cursed; then let all who heard [him] lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him.

"And you shall stone him with stones until he dies, because he sought to entice you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

"then you shall bring out to your gates that man or woman who has committed that wicked thing, and shall stone to death that man or woman with stones.

"Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones; so you shall put away the evil from among you, and all Israel shall hear and fear.

"then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones, because she has done a disgraceful thing in Israel, to play the harlot in her father's house. So you shall put away the evil from among you.

" If a young woman [who is] a virgin is betrothed to a husband, and a man finds her in the city and lies with her,

'Then it shall be [that] he who is taken with the accursed thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.' "

And it came to pass, about three months after, that Judah was told, saying, "Tamar your daughter-in-law has played the harlot; furthermore she [is] with child by harlotry." So Judah said, "Bring her out and let her be burned!"

'If a man marries a woman and her mother, it [is] wickedness. They shall be burned with fire, both he and they, that there may be no wickedness among you.

'The daughter of any priest, if she profanes herself by playing the harlot, she profanes her father. She shall be burned with fire.
