the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one;

the king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one;

the king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one;

the king of Taanach, one; the king of Megiddo, one;

the king of Dor in the heights of Dor, one; the king of the people of Gilgal, one;

"And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that [were] on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

Canaan begot Sidon his firstborn, and Heth;

the Hivite, the Arkite, and the Sinite;

And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; then as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.

On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates --

"the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,

"Moreover I have given to you one portion above your brothers, which I took from the hand of the Amorite with my sword and my bow."

'And now the LORD God of Israel has dispossessed the Amorites from before His people Israel; should you then possess it?

So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them. Now the Gibeonites [were] not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; the children of Israel had sworn protection to them, but Saul had sought to kill them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah.

"and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD to Jerusalem: "Your birth and your nativity [are] from the land of Canaan; your father [was] an Amorite and your mother a Hittite.

" Yet [it was] I [who] destroyed the Amorite before them, Whose height [was] like the height of the cedars, And he [was as] strong as the oaks; Yet I destroyed his fruit above And his roots beneath.

Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out [the inhabitants of] those cities, but the Canaanites were determined to dwell in that land.

"but the mountain country shall be yours. Although it [is] wooded, you shall cut it down, and its farthest extent shall be yours; for you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots [and] are strong."

Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, as far as the terebinth tree of Moreh. And the Canaanites [were] then in the land.

"And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before you.

Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, "Who shall be first to go up for us against the Canaanites to fight against them?"

So the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. The commander of his army [was] Sisera, who dwelt in Harosheth Hagoyim.

When these things were done, the leaders came to me, saying, "The people of Israel and the priests and the Levites have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, with respect to the abominations of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.

Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, And all the kingdoms of Canaan --

"The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan."

[namely,] five lords of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites who dwelt in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon to the entrance of Hamath.

For Gaza shall be forsaken, And Ashkelon desolate; They shall drive out Ashdod at noonday, And Ekron shall be uprooted.

The seacoast shall be pastures, With shelters for shepherds and folds for flocks.

and said to the men: "I know that the LORD has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you.

"And as soon as we heard [these things,] our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the LORD your God, He [is] God in heaven above and on earth beneath.

"The people will hear [and] be afraid; Sorrow will take hold of the inhabitants of Philistia.

Then the chiefs of Edom will be dismayed; The mighty men of Moab, Trembling will take hold of them; All the inhabitants of Canaan will melt away.

For behold, the kings assembled, They passed by together.

Fear took hold of them there, [And] pain, as of a woman in birth pangs,

"standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.'

So it was, in the morning, when the wine had gone from Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became [like] a stone.

the food on his table, the seating of his servants, the service of his waiters and their apparel, his cupbearers, and his entryway by which he went up to the house of the LORD, there was no more spirit in her.

Wail, for the day of the LORD [is] at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.

And they will be afraid. Pangs and sorrows will take hold of [them;] They will be in pain as a woman in childbirth; They will be amazed at one another; Their faces [will be like] flames.

"And it shall be when they say to you, 'Why are you sighing?' that you shall answer, 'Because of the news; when it comes, every heart will melt, all hands will be feeble, every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak [as] water. Behold, it is coming and shall be brought to pass,' says the Lord GOD."

Then the king's countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his hips were loosened and his knees knocked against each other.
