So Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them to let them live; and the rulers of the congregation swore to them.

But the children of Israel did not attack them, because the rulers of the congregation had sworn to them by the LORD God of Israel. And all the congregation complained against the rulers.

"This we will do to them: We will let them live, lest wrath be upon us because of the oath which we swore to them."

"And you shall not only show me the kindness of the LORD while I still live, that I may not die;

"but you shall not cut off your kindness from my house forever, no, not when the LORD has cut off every one of the enemies of David from the face of the earth."

Now Jonathan again caused David to vow, because he loved him; for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

And David said to him, "Can you take me down to this troop?" So he said, "Swear to me by God that you will neither kill me nor deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will take you down to this troop."

And he also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear [an oath] by God; but he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the LORD God of Israel.

"And it shall be, if they will learn carefully the ways of My people, to swear by My name, 'As the LORD lives,' as they taught My people to swear by Baal, then they shall be established in the midst of My people.

"And you shall not only show me the kindness of the LORD while I still live, that I may not die;

So Jonathan made [a covenant] with the house of David, [saying,] "Let the LORD require [it] at the hand of David's enemies."

"Therefore swear now to me by the LORD that you will not cut off my descendants after me, and that you will not destroy my name from my father's house."

So David swore to Saul. And Saul went home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.

"For how can I endure to see the evil that will come to my people? Or how can I endure to see the destruction of my countrymen?"

The Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain;

The Lord grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord in that Day -- and you know very well how many ways he ministered [to me] at Ephesus.

For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

"and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death."

"and I will make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell;

So the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter.

undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;

But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

"unless, [when] we come into the land, you bind this line of scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you bring your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father's household to your own home.

'Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you [are.] And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy [you] when I strike the land of Egypt.

and the LORD said to him, "Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and cry over all the abominations that are done within it."

"Utterly slay old [and] young men, maidens and little children and women; but do not come near anyone on whom [is] the mark; and begin at My sanctuary." So they began with the elders who [were] before the temple.

Now His betrayer had given them a signal, saying, "Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him and lead [Him] away safely."
