"Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim [were] there, and [that] the cities [were] great [and] fortified. It may be that the LORD [will be] with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said."

Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.

Now to Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a share among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, [namely,] Kirjath Arba, which [is] Hebron ([Arba was] the father of Anak).

Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak from there: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

And they went up through the South and came to Hebron; Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, [were] there. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

Then they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and there cut down a branch with one cluster of grapes; they carried it between two of them on a pole. [They] also [brought] some of the pomegranates and figs.

'Where can we go up? Our brethren have discouraged our hearts, saying, "The people [are] greater and taller than we; the cities [are] great and fortified up to heaven; moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there." '

a people as great and numerous and tall as the Anakim. But the LORD destroyed them before them, and they dispossessed them and dwelt in their place,

"a people great and tall, the descendants of the Anakim, whom you know, and [of whom] you heard [it said,] 'Who can stand before the descendants of Anak?'

Then Judah went against the Canaanites who dwelt in Hebron. (Now the name of Hebron [was] formerly Kirjath Arba.) And they killed Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.

From there they went against the inhabitants of Debir. (The name of Debir [was] formerly Kirjath Sepher.)

And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had said. Then he expelled from there the three sons of Anak.

Truly, in vain [is salvation hoped for] from the hills, [And from] the multitude of mountains; Truly, in the LORD our God [Is] the salvation of Israel.

Thus says the LORD: "Let not the wise [man] glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty [man] glory in his might, Nor let the rich [man] glory in his riches;

" Yet [it was] I [who] destroyed the Amorite before them, Whose height [was] like the height of the cedars, And he [was as] strong as the oaks; Yet I destroyed his fruit above And his roots beneath.

All these kings and their land Joshua took at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

'Then you went over the Jordan and came to Jericho. And the men of Jericho fought against you -- [also] the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. But I delivered them into your hand.

'I sent the hornet before you which drove them out from before you, [also] the two kings of the Amorites, [but] not with your sword or with your bow.

The Lord [is] at Your right hand; He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath.

He shall judge among the nations, He shall fill [the places] with dead bodies, He shall execute the heads of many countries.

[Let] the high praises of God [be] in their mouth, And a two-edged sword in their hand,

To bind their kings with chains, And their nobles with fetters of iron;

And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.

Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him [was] called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.

He [was] clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather together for the supper of the great God,

And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.

And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.
