So it happened, when their hearts were merry, that they said, "Call for Samson, that he may perform for us." So they called for Samson from the prison, and he performed for them. And they stationed him between the pillars.

Then he went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up the road, some youths came from the city and mocked him, and said to him, "Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!"

So the runners passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, as far as Zebulun; but they laughed at them and mocked them.

But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, till [there was] no remedy.

O LORD, You induced me, and I was persuaded; You are stronger than I, and have prevailed. I am in derision daily; Everyone mocks me.

"and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again."

"and they will mock Him, and scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again."

"For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon.

Then Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked [Him,] arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.

The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine,

Now Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, "Which way did the spirit from the LORD go from me to speak to you?"

Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that [were] in the high gate of Benjamin, which [was] by the house of the LORD.

Therefore the princes were angry with Jeremiah, and they struck him and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe. For they had made that the prison.

"And the vinedressers took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another.

"Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: [some] of them you will kill and crucify, and [some] of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,

Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered [Him] to be crucified.

And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten [them,] they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded [them] to be beaten with rods.

And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw [them] into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely.

From the Jews five times I received forty [stripes] minus one.

Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep;

for you had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven.

Then Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners [were] confined. And he was there in the prison.

"and say, 'Thus says the king: "Put this [fellow] in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction, until I come in peace." ' "

Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in prison, for [he was] enraged at him because of this. And Asa oppressed [some] of the people at that time.

He sent a man before them -- Joseph -- [who] was sold as a slave.

They hurt his feet with fetters, He was laid in irons.

Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that [were] in the high gate of Benjamin, which [was] by the house of the LORD.

"The LORD has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, so that there should be officers [in] the house of the LORD over every man [who] is demented and considers himself a prophet, that you should put him in prison and in the stocks.

For then the king of Babylon's army besieged Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which [was in] the king of Judah's house.

For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, "Why do you prophesy and say, 'Thus says the LORD: "Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;

"Then Hanamel my uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said to me, 'Please buy my field that [is] in Anathoth, which [is] in the country of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance [is] yours, and the redemption yours; buy [it] for yourself.' Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.

"You go, therefore, and read from the scroll which you have written at my instruction, the words of the LORD, in the hearing of the people in the LORD's house on the day of fasting. And you shall also read them in the hearing of all Judah who come from their cities.

Therefore the princes were angry with Jeremiah, and they struck him and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe. For they had made that the prison.

then Zedekiah the king sent and took him [out.] The king asked him secretly in his house, and said, "Is there [any] word from the LORD?" And Jeremiah said, "There is." Then he said, "You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon!"

"Where now [are] your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, 'The king of Babylon will not come against you or against this land'?

Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah to the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread from the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city was gone. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.

So they took Jeremiah and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king's son, which [was] in the court of the prison, and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. And in the dungeon [there was] no water, but mire. So Jeremiah sank in the mire.

Ebed-Melech went out of the king's house and spoke to the king, saying:

Then the king commanded Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian, saying, "Take from here thirty men with you, and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon before he dies."

Then Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, "Please put these old clothes and rags under your armpits, under the ropes." And Jeremiah did so.

Meanwhile the word of the LORD had come to Jeremiah while he was shut up in the court of the prison, saying,

My enemies without cause Hunted me down like a bird.

The waters flowed over my head; I said, "I am cut off!"

And they laid hands on them, and put [them] in custody until the next day, for it was already evening.

and laid their hands on the apostles and put them in the common prison.

As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing [them] to prison.

So when he had arrested him, he put [him] in prison, and delivered [him] to four squads of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him before the people after Passover.

And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were keeping the prison.

Then the angel said to him, "Gird yourself and tie on your sandals"; and so he did. And he said to him, "Put on your garment and follow me."

When they were past the first and the second guard posts, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened to them of its own accord; and they went out and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.

So, when he had considered [this,] he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying.

When she recognized Peter's voice, because of [her] gladness she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter stood before the gate.

Now Peter continued knocking; and when they opened [the door] and saw him, they were astonished.

Then, as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter.

Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone's chains were loosed.

But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, "Do yourself no harm, for we are all here."

And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.

Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.

So the keeper of the prison reported these words to Paul, saying, "The magistrates have sent to let you go. Now therefore depart, and go in peace."

And the officers told these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Romans.

So they went out of the prison and entered [the house of] Lydia; and when they had seen the brethren, they encouraged them and departed.

Then the commander came near and took him, and commanded [him] to be bound with two chains; and he asked who he was and what he had done.

But after two years Porcius Festus succeeded Felix; and Felix, wanting to do the Jews a favor, left Paul bound.

Are they ministers of Christ? -- I speak as a fool -- I [am] more: in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths often.

For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles --

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,

The Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain;

for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, [even] to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained.

"Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw [some] of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
