"Therefore understand that the LORD your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you [are] a stiff-necked people.

When He had called the multitude to [Himself,] He said to them, "Hear and understand:

'The LORD your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all He did for you in Egypt before your eyes,

'for the LORD your God [is] He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.'

"The LORD your God Himself crosses over before you; He will destroy these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess them. Joshua himself crosses over before you, just as the LORD has said.

"The LORD will give them over to you, that you may do to them according to every commandment which I have commanded you.

"Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is crossing over before you into the Jordan.

So it was, when the people set out from their camp to cross over the Jordan, with the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people,

The one who breaks open will come up before them; They will break out, Pass through the gate, And go out by it; Their king will pass before them, With the LORD at their head."

Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him [was] called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.

He [was] clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

"For the LORD your God [is] a consuming fire, a jealous God.

Fury [is] not in Me. Who would set briers [and] thorns Against Me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.

Behold, the name of the LORD comes from afar, Burning [with] His anger, And [His] burden [is] heavy; His lips are full of indignation, And His tongue like a devouring fire.

The LORD will cause His glorious voice to be heard, And show the descent of His arm, With the indignation of [His] anger And the flame of a devouring fire, [With] scattering, tempest, and hailstones.

For Tophet [was] established of old, Yes, for the king it is prepared. He has made [it] deep and large; Its pyre [is] fire with much wood; The breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, Kindles it.

The sinners in Zion are afraid; Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites: "Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?"

The mountains quake before Him, The hills melt, And the earth heaves at His presence, Yes, the world and all who dwell in it.

Who can stand before His indignation? And who can endure the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, And the rocks are thrown down by Him.

in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

For our God [is] a consuming fire.

"When the LORD your God brings you into the land which you go to possess, and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you,

"and when the LORD your God delivers them over to you, you shall conquer them [and] utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them.

"And you shall destroy all the peoples whom the LORD your God delivers over to you; your eye shall have no pity on them; nor shall you serve their gods, for that [will be] a snare to you.

"But the LORD your God will deliver them over to you, and will inflict defeat upon them until they are destroyed.

"And He will deliver their kings into your hand, and you will destroy their name from under heaven; no one shall be able to stand against you until you have destroyed them.

"I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beast of the field become too numerous for you.

"And I will set your bounds from the Red Sea to the sea, Philistia, and from the desert to the River. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.

Fear not, for I [am] with you; Be not dismayed, for I [am] your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'

You shall seek them and not find them -- Those who contended with you. Those who war against you Shall be as nothing, As a nonexistent thing.

" Fear not, you worm Jacob, You men of Israel! I will help you," says the LORD And your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

You shall winnow them, the wind shall carry them away, And the whirlwind shall scatter them; You shall rejoice in the LORD, [And] glory in the Holy One of Israel.

What then shall we say to these things? If God [is] for us, who [can be] against us?
