Then Moses pleaded with the LORD his God, and said: "LORD, why does Your wrath burn hot against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

"Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants, to whom You swore by Your own self, and said to them, 'I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven; and all this land that I have spoken of I give to your descendants, and they shall inherit [it] forever.' "

Then he said, "If now I have found grace in Your sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray, go among us, even though we [are] a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your inheritance."

And Moses said to the LORD: "Then the Egyptians will hear [it,] for by Your might You brought these people up from among them,

"Now [if] You kill these people as one man, then the nations which have heard of Your fame will speak, saying,

"And now, I pray, let the power of my LORD be great, just as You have spoken, saying,

"Pardon the iniquity of this people, I pray, according to the greatness of Your mercy, just as You have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now."

Moses and Aaron were among His priests, And Samuel was among those who called upon His name; They called upon the LORD, and He answered them.

Therefore He said that He would destroy them, Had not Moses His chosen one stood before Him in the breach, To turn away His wrath, lest He destroy [them.]

Do not abhor [us,] for Your name's sake; Do not disgrace the throne of Your glory. Remember, do not break Your covenant with us.

"(for they [are] Your people and Your inheritance, whom You brought out of Egypt, out of the iron furnace),

'Yet they [are] Your people and Your inheritance, whom You brought out by Your mighty power and by Your outstretched arm.'

For the LORD's portion [is] His people; Jacob [is] the place of His inheritance.

A Contemplation of Asaph. O God, why have You cast [us] off forever? [Why] does Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture?

Remember Your congregation, [which] You have purchased of old, The tribe of Your inheritance, [which] You have redeemed -- This Mount Zion where You have dwelt.

We have become [like] those of old, over whom You never ruled, Those who were never called by Your name.

"but because the LORD loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

"But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has spoken in order to turn [you] away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of bondage, to entice you from the way in which the LORD your God commanded you to walk. So you shall put away the evil from your midst.

"You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God redeemed you; therefore I command you this thing today.

'Provide atonement, O LORD, for Your people Israel, whom You have redeemed, and do not lay innocent blood to the charge of Your people Israel.' And atonement shall be provided on their behalf for the blood.

'Then we cried out to the LORD God of our fathers, and the LORD heard our voice and looked on our affliction and our labor and our oppression.

'So the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm, with great terror and with signs and wonders.

You in Your mercy have led forth The people whom You have redeemed; You have guided [them] in Your strength To Your holy habitation.

"And who [is] like Your people, like Israel, the one nation on the earth whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make for Himself a name -- and to do for Yourself great and awesome deeds for Your land -- before Your people whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, the nations, and their gods?

"Now these [are] Your servants and Your people, whom You have redeemed by Your great power, and by Your strong hand.

You have with [Your] arm redeemed Your people, The sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah

Let the redeemed of the LORD say [so,] Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,

Sing, O heavens, for the LORD has done [it!] Shout, you lower parts of the earth; Break forth into singing, you mountains, O forest, and every tree in it! For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, And glorified Himself in Israel.

For I brought you up from the land of Egypt, I redeemed you from the house of bondage; And I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself [His] own special people, zealous for good works.

Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

And they sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
