"I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No."

He said: "I [am] 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Make straight the way of the LORD," ' as the prophet Isaiah said."

John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.

"He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.

"He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.

"He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.

So when Peter saw [it,] he responded to the people: "Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?

"The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let [Him] go.

But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practiced sorcery in the city and astonished the people of Samaria, claiming that he was someone great,

to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, "This man is the great power of God."

As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped [him.]

But Peter lifted him up, saying, "Stand up; I myself am also a man."

Now when the people saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices, saying in the Lycaonian [language,] "The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!"

Then the priest of Zeus, whose temple was in front of their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, intending to sacrifice with the multitudes.

and saying, "Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them,

Therefore I have reason to glory in Christ Jesus in the things [which pertain] to God.

For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not accomplished through me, in word and deed, to make the Gentiles obedient --

Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name.

Who then is Paul, and who [is] Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one?

I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.

just as I also please all [men] in all [things,] not seeking my own profit, but the [profit] of many, that they may be saved.

Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from good will:

For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak for covetousness -- God [is] witness.

Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.

whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.

Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly;

and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.

By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.

For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us -- by me, Silvanus, and Timothy -- was not Yes and No, but in Him was Yes.

"But you, do not be called 'Rabbi'; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren.

"Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."

"Him God has exalted to His right hand [to be] Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

"The word which [God] sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ -- He is Lord of all --

For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's.

For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness,

For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

yet for us [there is] one God, the Father, of whom [are] all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom [are] all things, and through whom we [live.]

Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

The first man [was] of the earth, [made] of dust; the second Man [is] the Lord from heaven.

and [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Not that we have dominion over your faith, but are fellow workers for your joy; for by faith you stand.

For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died;

and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.

But Jesus called them to [Himself] and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them.

"And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave --

And He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called 'benefactors.'

"But not so [among] you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves.

"If I then, [your] Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.

"For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.

We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves.

Let each of us please [his] neighbor for [his] good, leading to edification.

For though I am free from all [men,] I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more;

to those [who are] without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those [who are] without law;

Now this I do for the gospel's sake, that I may be partaker of it with [you.]

For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not [use] liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
