But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they [are] not all Israel who [are] of Israel,

And He said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed."

And Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, saying, "Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:

'Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth [is] Mine.

" For you [are] a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.

A Psalm of Asaph. Truly God [is] good to Israel, To such as are pure in heart.

" But you, Israel, [are] My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, The descendants of Abraham My friend.

" Listen to Me, O house of Jacob, And all the remnant of the house of Israel, Who have been upheld [by Me] from birth, Who have been carried from the womb:

Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!"

"Then you shall say to Pharaoh, 'Thus says the LORD: "Israel [is] My son, My firstborn.

"You [are] the children of the LORD your God; you shall not cut yourselves nor shave the front of your head for the dead.

They shall come with weeping, And with supplications I will lead them. I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters, In a straight way in which they shall not stumble; For I am a Father to Israel, And Ephraim [is] My firstborn.

[Is] Ephraim My dear son? [Is he] a pleasant child? For though I spoke against him, I earnestly remember him still; Therefore My heart yearns for him; I will surely have mercy on him, says the LORD.

"When Israel [was] a child, I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son.

Now when Moses went into the tabernacle of meeting to speak with Him, he heard the voice of One speaking to him from above the mercy seat that [was] on the ark of the Testimony, from between the two cherubim; thus He spoke to him.

Then she named the child Ichabod, saying, "The glory has departed from Israel!" because the ark of God had been captured and because of her father-in-law and her husband.

And she said, "The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured."

so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD.

So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory.

And delivered His strength into captivity, And His glory into the enemy's hand.

Let Your work appear to Your servants, And Your glory to their children.

" The sun shall no longer be your light by day, Nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you; But the LORD will be to you an everlasting light, And your God your glory.

On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates --

"And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly."

"And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.

"This [is] My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised;

Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, "All that the LORD has said we will do, and be obedient."

And Moses took the blood, sprinkled [it] on the people, and said, "This is the blood of the covenant which the LORD has made with you according to all these words."

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write these words, for according to the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel."

These [are] the words of the covenant which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which He made with them in Horeb.

And the LORD said to Moses: "Behold, you will rest with your fathers; and this people will rise and play the harlot with the gods of the foreigners of the land, where they go [to be] among them, and they will forsake Me and break My covenant which I have made with them.

Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood and the covenant of the priesthood and the Levites.

"I have made a covenant with My chosen, I have sworn to My servant David:

My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.

"But this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

"Thus says the LORD: 'If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that there will not be day and night in their season,

'As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so will I multiply the descendants of David My servant and the Levites who minister to Me.' "

"Have you not considered what these people have spoken, saying, 'The two families which the LORD has chosen, He has also cast them off'? Thus they have despised My people, as if they should no more be a nation before them.

"You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.'

But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.

Because finding fault with them, He says: "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah --

"For this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles of God.

"You came down also on Mount Sinai, And spoke with them from heaven, And gave them just ordinances and true laws, Good statutes and commandments.

You made known to them Your holy Sabbath, And commanded them precepts, statutes and laws, By the hand of Moses Your servant.

He declares His word to Jacob, His statutes and His judgments to Israel.

"And I gave them My statutes and showed them My judgments, 'which, [if] a man does, he shall live by them.'

"Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I [am] the LORD who sanctifies them.

For the law was given through Moses, [but] grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

"It will come to pass when you come to the land which the LORD will give you, just as He promised, that you shall keep this service.

He dug it up and cleared out its stones, And planted it with the choicest vine. He built a tower in its midst, And also made a winepress in it; So He expected [it] to bring forth [good] grapes, But it brought forth wild grapes.

" Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country.

and behind the second veil, the part of the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of All,

[concerned] only with foods and drinks, various washings, and fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation.

He has helped His servant Israel, In remembrance of [His] mercy,

As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and to his seed forever."

And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of His servant David,

That we should be saved from our enemies And from the hand of all who hate us,

The oath which He swore to our father Abraham:

In holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.

"For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call."

"You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.'

"To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one [of you] from your iniquities."

"And we declare to you glad tidings -- that promise which was made to the fathers.

"God has fulfilled this for us their children, in that He has raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second Psalm: 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.'

that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,

And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed [it] by an oath,
