"I [am] a foreigner and a visitor among you. Give me property for a burial place among you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight."

Saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan As the allotment of your inheritance,"

When they were few in number, Indeed very few, and strangers in it.

By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as [in] a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise;

for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker [is] God.

These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced [them] and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

And truly if they had called to mind that [country] from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return.

"Do not meddle with them, for I will not give you [any] of their land, no, not so much as one footstep, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau [as] a possession.

Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your descendants I will give this land." And there he built an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him.

"for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.

Then Abram said, "Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one born in my house is my heir!"

On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates --

"Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God."

"Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.

And behold, the LORD stood above it and said: "I [am] the LORD God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants.

"Behold, I [am] with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you."

'I will take you as My people, and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I [am] the LORD your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

'And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you [as] a heritage: I [am] the LORD.' "

" So it shall be, when the LORD your God brings you into the land of which He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give you large and beautiful cities which you did not build,

"houses full of all good things, which you did not fill, hewn-out wells which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant -- when you have eaten and are full --

"[It is] not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart [that] you go in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations [that] the LORD your God drives them out from before you, and that He may fulfill the word which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

"Then the LORD said to me, 'Arise, begin [your] journey before the people, that they may go in and possess the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.'

"and that you may prolong [your] days in the land which the LORD swore to give your fathers, to them and their descendants, 'a land flowing with milk and honey.'

Then the LORD said to him, "This [is] the land of which I swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, 'I will give it to your descendants.' I have caused you to see [it] with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there."

You found his heart faithful before You, And made a covenant with him To give the land of the Canaanites, The Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, And the Girgashites -- To give [it] to his descendants. You have performed Your words, For You [are] righteous.

He remembers His covenant forever, The word [which] He commanded, for a thousand generations,

And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel [as] an everlasting covenant,

But Abram said, "Lord GOD, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house [is] Eliezer of Damascus?"

And behold, the word of the LORD [came] to him, saying, "This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir."

So Sarai said to Abram, "See now, the LORD has restrained me from bearing [children.] Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her." And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai.

"And I will bless her and also give you a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be [a mother of] nations; kings of peoples shall be from her."

And Abraham said to God, "Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!"
