Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added [to them.]

praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.

And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women,

saying, "Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man's blood on us!"

There will be an abundance of grain in the earth, On the top of the mountains; Its fruit shall wave like Lebanon; And [those] of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.

Your people [shall be] volunteers In the day of Your power; In the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, You have the dew of Your youth.

Those who come He shall cause to take root in Jacob; Israel shall blossom and bud, And fill the face of the world with fruit.

Then out of them shall proceed thanksgiving And the voice of those who make merry; I will multiply them, and they shall not diminish; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

Let brotherly love continue.

Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously"?

Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!

And he spoke boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus and disputed against the Hellenists, but they attempted to kill him.

But some of them were men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus.

Are they Hebrews? So [am] I. Are they Israelites? So [am] I. Are they the seed of Abraham? So [am] I.

Then Peter arose and went with them. When he had come, they brought [him] to the upper room. And all the widows stood by him weeping, showing the tunics and garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them.

Then he gave her [his] hand and lifted her up; and when he had called the saints and widows, he presented her alive.

" When you reap your harvest in your field, and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

"When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not glean [it] afterward; it shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow.

" When you have finished laying aside all the tithe of your increase in the third year -- the year of tithing -- and have given [it] to the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, so that they may eat within your gates and be filled,

The blessing of a perishing [man] came upon me, And I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

"If I have kept the poor from [their] desire, Or caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow.

"In you they have made light of father and mother; in your midst they have oppressed the stranger; in you they have mistreated the fatherless and the widow.

And I will come near you for judgment; I will be a swift witness Against sorcerers, Against adulterers, Against perjurers, Against those who exploit wage earners and widows and orphans, And against those who turn away an alien -- Because they do not fear Me," Says the LORD of hosts.

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before God.

Now she who is really a widow, and left alone, trusts in God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day.

Do not let a widow under sixty years old be taken into the number, [and not unless] she has been the wife of one man,

Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, [and] to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.

and laid [them] at the apostles' feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.
