The kings of the earth took their stand, And the rulers were gathered together Against the LORD and against His Christ.'

Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing?

"Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us."

Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, "What shall we do? For this Man works many signs.

And one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, "You know nothing at all,

But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also,

The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, "You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!"

Now as they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them,

being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

as well as Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the family of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.

But when Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, "Men [and] brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee; concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!"

For Sadducees say that there is no resurrection -- and no angel or spirit; but the Pharisees confess both.

" And the patriarchs, becoming envious, sold Joseph into Egypt. But God was with him

But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul.

But the Jews who were not persuaded, becoming envious, took some of the evil men from the marketplace, and gathering a mob, set all the city in an uproar and attacked the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

Now Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, but had departed from Saul.

And David behaved wisely in all his ways, and the LORD [was] with him.

But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.

For wrath kills a foolish man, And envy slays a simple one.

A sound heart [is] life to the body, But envy [is] rottenness to the bones.

Wrath [is] cruel and anger a torrent, But who [is] able to stand before jealousy?

Again, I saw that for all toil and every skillful work a man is envied by his neighbor. This also [is] vanity and grasping for the wind.

For he knew that they had handed Him over because of envy.

envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told [you] in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.

For where envy and self-seeking [exist,] confusion and every evil thing [are] there.

Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously"?

Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking,
