Then the high priest rose up, and all those who [were] with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with indignation,

But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul.

And about that time there arose a great commotion about the Way.

When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard [of it,] they were deeply disturbed that a man had come to seek the well-being of the children of Israel.

Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, "What shall we do? For this Man works many signs.

"If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation."

"Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly,

"And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God [to be] Judge of the living and the dead.

Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, "What does this babbler want to say?" Others said, "He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods," because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.

"because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead."

And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, "We will hear you again on this [matter."]

"But this I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect, so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets.

"I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of [the] dead, both of [the] just and [the] unjust.

"unless [it is] for this one statement which I cried out, standing among them, 'Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged by you this day.' "

"Why should it be thought incredible by you that God raises the dead?

"that the Christ would suffer, that He would be the first to rise from the dead, and would proclaim light to the [Jewish] people and to the Gentiles."

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching [is] empty and your faith [is] also empty.

For if [the] dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen.

Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.

But now Christ is risen from the dead, [and] has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those [who are] Christ's at His coming.

And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, "I believed and therefore I spoke," we also believe and therefore speak,

knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present [us] with you.

But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
