Then Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest

and asked letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

"as also the high priest bears me witness, and all the council of the elders, from whom I also received letters to the brethren, and went to Damascus to bring in chains even those who were there to Jerusalem to be punished.

"This I also did in Jerusalem, and many of the saints I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against [them.]

And she wrote letters in Ahab's name, sealed [them] with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and the nobles who [were] dwelling in the city with Naboth.

and seat two men, scoundrels, before him to bear witness against him, saying, "You have blasphemed God and the king." [Then] take him out, and stone him, that he may die.

Shall the throne of iniquity, which devises evil by law, Have fellowship with You?

They gather together against the life of the righteous, And condemn innocent blood.

"Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, Who write misfortune, [Which] they have prescribed

Now it happened, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded [him] to speak to all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying, "You will surely die!

"The LORD has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, so that there should be officers [in] the house of the LORD over every man [who] is demented and considers himself a prophet, that you should put him in prison and in the stocks.

Now therefore, why have you not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth who makes himself a prophet to you?

Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, "Why have you not brought Him?"

Then the Pharisees answered them, "Are you also deceived?

Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a command, that if anyone knew where He was, he should report [it,] that they might seize Him.
