Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to idols.

And when the city clerk had quieted the crowd, he said: "Men of Ephesus, what man is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is temple guardian of the great goddess Diana, and of the [image] which fell down from Zeus?

"but had some questions against him about their own religion and about a certain Jesus, who had died, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.

Thus says the LORD: "Do not learn the way of the Gentiles; Do not be dismayed at the signs of heaven, For the Gentiles are dismayed at them.

For the customs of the peoples [are] futile; For [one] cuts a tree from the forest, The work of the hands of the workman, with the ax.

A drought [is] against her waters, and they will be dried up. For it [is] the land of carved images, And they are insane with [their] idols.
