Then they said to one another, "We [are] truly guilty concerning our brother, for we saw the anguish of his soul when he pleaded with us, and we would not hear; therefore this distress has come upon us."

And Reuben answered them, saying, "Did I not speak to you, saying, 'Do not sin against the boy'; and you would not listen? Therefore behold, his blood is now required of us."

The king said moreover to Shimei, "You know, as your heart acknowledges, all the wickedness that you did to my father David; therefore the LORD will return your wickedness on your own head.

So she said to Elijah, "What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?"

These [things] you have done, and I kept silent; You thought that I was altogether like you; [But] I will rebuke you, And set [them] in order before your eyes.

For many times, also, your own heart has known That even you have cursed others.

Now King Herod heard [of Him,] for His name had become well known. And he said, "John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him."

But when Herod heard, he said, "This is John, whom I beheaded; he has been raised from the dead!"

In the meantime, when an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first [of all,] "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

"Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.

who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves [their] thoughts accusing or else excusing [them)]

You who say, "Do not commit adultery," do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?

For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

He frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot carry out their plans.

He catches the wise in their own craftiness, And the counsel of the cunning comes quickly upon them.

That the triumphing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the hypocrite is [but] for a moment?

The heavens will reveal his iniquity, And the earth will rise up against him.

The nations have sunk down in the pit [which] they made; In the net which they hid, their own foot is caught.

The LORD is known [by] the judgment He executes; The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Meditation. Selah

Let them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion Who seek to destroy my life; Let them be driven backward and brought to dishonor Who wish me evil.

Let them be confounded [and] consumed Who are adversaries of my life; Let them be covered [with] reproach and dishonor Who seek my hurt.

And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.

Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.

When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, "Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?"

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."
