To the woman He said: "I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire [shall be] for your husband, And he shall rule over you."

LORD, in trouble they have visited You, They poured out a prayer [when] Your chastening [was] upon them.

We have been with child, we have been in pain; We have, as it were, brought forth wind; We have not accomplished any deliverance in the earth, Nor have the inhabitants of the world fallen.

Ask now, and see, Whether a man is ever in labor with child? So why do I see every man [with] his hands on his loins Like a woman in labor, And all faces turned pale?

Alas! For that day [is] great, So that none [is] like it; And it [is] the time of Jacob's trouble, But he shall be saved out of it.

The sorrows of a woman in childbirth shall come upon him. He [is] an unwise son, For he should not stay long where children are born.

"I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction! Pity is hidden from My eyes.

Be in pain, and labor to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, Like a woman in birth pangs. For now you shall go forth from the city, You shall dwell in the field, And to Babylon you shall go. There you shall be delivered; There the LORD will redeem you From the hand of your enemies.

Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth.

His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born.

And Sarah said, "God has made me laugh, [and] all who hear will laugh with me."

She also said, "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne [him] a son in his old age."

And she conceived and bore a son, and said, "God has taken away my reproach."

So she called his name Joseph, and said, "The LORD shall add to me another son."

And she said, "O my lord! As your soul lives, my lord, I [am] the woman who stood by you here, praying to the LORD.

"For this child I prayed, and the LORD has granted me my petition which I asked of Him.

He grants the barren woman a home, Like a joyful mother of children. Praise the LORD!

Now Elizabeth's full time came for her to be delivered, and she brought forth a son.

When her neighbors and relatives heard how the Lord had shown great mercy to her, they rejoiced with her.

For it is written: "Rejoice, O barren, [You] who do not bear! Break forth and shout, You who are not in labor! For the desolate has many more children Than she who has a husband."
