And all his sons and all his daughters arose to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted, and he said, "For I shall go down into the grave to my son in mourning." Thus his father wept for him.

Then David said, "I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me." So David sent by the hand of his servants to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the people of Ammon.

Zabad his son, Shuthelah his son, and Ezer and Elead. The men of Gath who were born in [that] land killed [them] because they came down to take away their cattle.

Then Ephraim their father mourned many days, and his brethren came to comfort him.

Now when Job's three friends heard of all this adversity that had come upon him, each one came from his own place -- Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. For they had made an appointment together to come and mourn with him, and to comfort him.

Then all his brothers, all his sisters, and all those who had been his acquaintances before, came to him and ate food with him in his house; and they consoled him and comforted him for all the adversity that the LORD had brought upon him. Each one gave him a piece of silver and each a ring of gold.

Better to go to the house of mourning Than to go to the house of feasting, For that [is] the end of all men; And the living will take [it] to heart.

These two [things] have come to you; Who will be sorry for you? -- Desolation and destruction, famine and sword -- By whom will I comfort you?

For thus says the LORD: "Do not enter the house of mourning, nor go to lament or bemoan them; for I have taken away My peace from this people," says the LORD, "lovingkindness and mercies.

"Nor shall [men] break [bread] in mourning for them, to comfort them for the dead; nor shall [men] give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or their mother.

She weeps bitterly in the night, Her tears [are] on her cheeks; Among all her lovers She has none to comfort [her.] All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; They have become her enemies.

Her uncleanness [is] in her skirts; She did not consider her destiny; Therefore her collapse was awesome; She had no comforter. "O LORD, behold my affliction, For [the] enemy is exalted!"

"For these [things] I weep; My eye, my eye overflows with water; Because the comforter, who should restore my life, Is far from me. My children are desolate Because the enemy prevailed."

"They have heard that I sigh, [But] no one comforts me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; They are glad that You have done [it.] Bring on the day You have announced, That they may become like me.

How shall I console you? To what shall I liken you, O daughter of Jerusalem? What shall I compare with you, that I may comfort you, O virgin daughter of Zion? For your ruin [is] spread wide as the sea; Who can heal you?

Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.
