Then a dispute arose among them as to which of them would be greatest.

But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.

But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know the things which were spoken.

Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, "Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!"

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "[It is] because we have no bread."

"Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?

So they kept this word to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant.

But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him.

His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and [that] they had done these things to Him.

The people answered Him, "We have heard from the law that the Christ remains forever; and how [can] You say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up'? Who is this Son of Man?"

Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?"

Then [some] of His disciples said among themselves, "What is this that He says to us, 'A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me'; and, 'because I go to the Father'?"

They said therefore, "What is this that He says, 'A little while'? We do not know what He is saying."

But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the [veil] is taken away in Christ.

Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
