And one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, "You know nothing at all,

Now this he did not say on his own [authority;] but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,

And they led Him away to Annas first, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas who was high priest that year.

Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

Then Annas sent Him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.

as well as Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the family of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.

So it was, on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him by the name of his father, Zacharias.

But they said to her, "There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name."

And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, "His name is John." So they all marveled.

to whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

the word of the LORD came expressly to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the River Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was upon him there.

The word of the LORD that came to Hosea the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, [and] Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.

[When] the LORD began to speak by Hosea, the LORD said to Hosea: "Go, take yourself a wife of harlotry And children of harlotry, For the land has committed great harlotry [By departing] from the LORD."

Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

The word of the LORD that came to Micah of Moresheth in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, [and] Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

The word of the LORD which came to Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.

So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel.

The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Prepare the way of the LORD; Make straight in the desert A highway for our God.

In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,

As they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

"The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight.' "

He said: "I [am] 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Make straight the way of the LORD," ' as the prophet Isaiah said."
