Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,

to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name [was] Mary.

Now Jesus Himself began [His ministry at] about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) [the] son of Joseph, [the son] of Heli,

So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, "He shall be called a Nazarene."

And Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."

So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that [is,] Bethlehem).

"But as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died beside me in the land of Canaan on the way, when [there was] but a little distance to go to Ephrath; and I buried her there on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem)."

Now the two of them went until they came to Bethlehem. And it happened, when they had come to Bethlehem, that all the city was excited because of them; and the women said, "[Is] this Naomi?"

Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, "The LORD [be] with you!" And they answered him, "The LORD bless you!"

And all the people who [were] at the gate, and the elders, said, "[We are] witnesses. The LORD make the woman who is coming to your house like Rachel and Leah, the two who built the house of Israel; and may you prosper in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem.

Also the neighbor women gave him a name, saying, "There is a son born to Naomi." And they called his name Obed. He [is] the father of Jesse, the father of David.

Salmon begot Boaz, and Boaz begot Obed;

Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David.

Now the LORD said to Samuel, "How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons."

So Samuel did what the LORD said, and went to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, "Do you come peaceably?"

Now David [was] the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, whose name [was] Jesse, and who had eight sons. And the man was old, advanced [in years,] in the days of Saul.

And Saul said to him, "Whose son [are] you, young man?" So David answered, "[I am] the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite."

"If your father misses me at all, then say, 'David earnestly asked [permission] of me that he might run over to Bethlehem, his city, for [there is] a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.'

" But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, [Though] you are little among the thousands of Judah, [Yet] out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth [are] from of old, From everlasting."

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem,

When Herod the king heard [this,] he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

So they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet:

"Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?"

[the son] of Jose, [the son] of Eliezer, [the son] of Jorim, [the son] of Matthat, [the son] of Levi,

[the son] of Melea, [the son] of Menan, [the son] of Mattathah, [the son] of Nathan, [the son] of David,

The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:

Judah begot Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez begot Hezron, and Hezron begot Ram.

Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse,

Solomon begot Rehoboam, Rehoboam begot Abijah, and Abijah begot Asa.

Uzziah begot Jotham, Jotham begot Ahaz, and Ahaz begot Hezekiah.

Josiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers about the time they were carried away to Babylon.

Zerubbabel begot Abiud, Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor.

Eliud begot Eleazar, Eleazar begot Matthan, and Matthan begot Jacob.

So all the generations from Abraham to David [are] fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon [are] fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ [are] fourteen generations.
