"Beware lest there be a wicked thought in your heart, saying, 'The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand,' and your eye be evil against your poor brother and you give him nothing, and he cry out to the LORD against you, and it become sin among you.

"The sensitive and very refined man among you will be hostile toward his brother, toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the rest of his children whom he leaves behind,

"The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground because of her delicateness and sensitivity, will refuse to the husband of her bosom, and to her son and her daughter,

Then Saul was very angry, and the saying displeased him; and he said, "They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed [only] thousands. Now [what] more can he have but the kingdom?"

So Saul eyed David from that day forward.

Do not eat the bread of a miser, Nor desire his delicacies;

A man with an evil eye hastens after riches, And does not consider that poverty will come upon him.

'Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?'

But Hezekiah did not repay according to the favor [shown] him, for his heart was lifted up; therefore wrath was looming over him and over Judah and Jerusalem.

Then Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

However, [regarding] the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, whom they sent to him to inquire about the wonder that was [done] in the land, God withdrew from him, in order to test him, that He might know all [that was] in his heart.

The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek [God;] God [is] in none of his thoughts.

The pride of your heart has deceived you, [You] who dwell in the clefts of the rock, Whose habitation is high; [You] who say in your heart, 'Who will bring me down to the ground?'

Though you ascend [as] high as the eagle, And though you set your nest among the stars, From there I will bring you down," says the LORD.

casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to [your] elders. Yes, all of [you] be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble."

A prudent man conceals knowledge, But the heart of fools proclaims foolishness.

Foolishness [is] bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of correction will drive it far from him.

The devising of foolishness [is] sin, And the scoffer [is] an abomination to men.

Though you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with crushed grain, [Yet] his foolishness will not depart from him.

I applied my heart to know, To search and seek out wisdom and the reason [of things,] To know the wickedness of folly, Even of foolishness [and] madness.

For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men --
