While He was still speaking, someone came from the ruler of the synagogue's [house,] saying to him, "Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the Teacher."

"Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.

Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, "Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof.

"Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.

Then Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.

Then, when Mary came where Jesus was, and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying to Him, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died."

Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, "Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been [dead] four days."

Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?"

And He said, "Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, 'The Teacher says, "My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples." ' "

And when she had said these things, she went her way and secretly called Mary her sister, saying, "The Teacher has come and is calling for you."
