"I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him.

But Jesus answered and said to him, "Permit [it to be so] now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed Him.

"Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.

"I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."

It came to pass in those days [that] Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

John answered, saying to all, "I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

And they asked him, saying, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"

"It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose."

"I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water."

"I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'

Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were baptized.

Then there arose a dispute between [some] of John's disciples and the Jews about purification.

"for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."

Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation."

"The word which [God] sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ -- He is Lord of all --

"how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

"Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, 'John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'

Then Paul said, "John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus."

When they heard [this,] they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds.

all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,

buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with [Him] through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

[concerned] only with foods and drinks, various washings, and fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation.

There is also an antitype which now saves us -- baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

"Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, concerning all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send [it] away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable man.

' [But] if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, with their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, and that they also have walked contrary to Me,

'then he shall confess the sin which he has committed. He shall make restitution for his trespass in full, plus one-fifth of it, and give [it] to the one he has wronged.

Now Joshua said to Achan, "My son, I beg you, give glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession to Him, and tell me now what you have done; do not hide [it] from me."

Then he looks at men and says, 'I have sinned, and perverted [what was] right, And it did not profit me.'

He will redeem his soul from going down to the Pit, And his life shall see the light.

I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah

He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes [them] will have mercy.

And I prayed to the LORD my God, and made confession, and said, "O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with those who love Him, and with those who keep His commandments,

Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.

'I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you,

"And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds.

'And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.'

Confess [your] trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
