Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of livestock; and when they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, that indeed the region [was] a place for livestock,

And the children of Gad built Dibon and Ataroth and Aroer,

Beth Nimrah and Beth Haran, fortified cities, and folds for sheep.

Nebo and Baal Meon ([their] names being changed) and Shibmah; and they gave [other] names to the cities which they built.

Heshbon and all its cities that [are] in the plain: Dibon, Bamoth Baal, Beth Baal Meon,

He has gone up to the temple and Dibon, To the high places to weep. Moab will wail over Nebo and over Medeba; On all their heads [will be] baldness, [And] every beard cut off.

Heshbon and Elealeh will cry out, Their voice shall be heard as far as Jahaz; Therefore the armed soldiers of Moab will cry out; His life will be burdensome to him.

On Dibon and Nebo and Beth Diblathaim,

On Kirjathaim and Beth Gamul and Beth Meon,

For the waters of Nimrim will be desolate, For the green grass has withered away; The grass fails, there is nothing green.

So Israel took all these cities, and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon and in all its villages.

For Heshbon [was] the city of Sihon king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and had taken all his land from his hand as far as the Arnon.

"For fire went out from Heshbon, A flame from the city of Sihon; It consumed Ar of Moab, The lords of the heights of the Arnon.

'While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and its villages, in Aroer and its villages, and in all the cities along the banks of the Arnon, for three hundred years, why did you not recover [them] within that time?

"Moreover You gave them kingdoms and nations, And divided them into districts. So they took possession of the land of Sihon, The land of the king of Heshbon, And the land of Og king of Bashan.

Heshbon and Elealeh will cry out, Their voice shall be heard as far as Jahaz; Therefore the armed soldiers of Moab will cry out; His life will be burdensome to him.

For the fields of Heshbon languish, [And] the vine of Sibmah; The lords of the nations have broken down its choice plants, Which have reached to Jazer And wandered through the wilderness. Her branches are stretched out, They are gone over the sea.

Therefore I will bewail the vine of Sibmah, With the weeping of Jazer; I will drench you with my tears, O Heshbon and Elealeh; For battle cries have fallen Over your summer fruits and your harvest.

No more praise of Moab. In Heshbon they have devised evil against her: 'Come, and let us cut her off as a nation.' You also shall be cut down, O Madmen! The sword shall pursue you;

" From the cry of Heshbon to Elealeh and to Jahaz They have uttered their voice, From Zoar to Horonaim, [Like] a three-year-old heifer; For the waters of Nimrim also shall be desolate.

" Those who fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon Because of exhaustion. But a fire shall come out of Heshbon, A flame from the midst of Sihon, And shall devour the brow of Moab, The crown of the head of the sons of tumult.

Kirjathaim, Sibmah, Zereth Shahar on the mountain of the valley,

For the fields of Heshbon languish, [And] the vine of Sibmah; The lords of the nations have broken down its choice plants, Which have reached to Jazer And wandered through the wilderness. Her branches are stretched out, They are gone over the sea.

O vine of Sibmah! I will weep for you with the weeping of Jazer. Your plants have gone over the sea, They reach to the sea of Jazer. The plunderer has fallen on your summer fruit and your vintage.
