And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot [a son] in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.

And the LORD smelled a soothing aroma. Then the LORD said in His heart, "I will never again curse the ground for man's sake, although the imagination of man's heart [is] evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.

So the people went in And possessed the land; You subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, The Canaanites, And gave them into their hands, With their kings And the people of the land, That they might do with them as they wished.

" Nevertheless they were disobedient And rebelled against You, Cast Your law behind their backs And killed Your prophets, who testified against them To turn them to Yourself; And they worked great provocations.

Who can bring a clean [thing] out of an unclean? No one!

But turned back and acted unfaithfully like their fathers; They were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

Alas, sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the LORD, They have provoked to anger The Holy One of Israel, They have turned away backward.

Whom do you ridicule? Against whom do you make a wide mouth [And] stick out the tongue? [Are] you not children of transgression, Offspring of falsehood,

"Notwithstanding, the children rebelled against Me; they did not walk in My statutes, and were not careful to observe My judgments, 'which, [if] a man does, he shall live by them'; but they profaned My Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out My fury on them and fulfill My anger against them in the wilderness.

"Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.

"Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?

"In fact, you bear witness that you approve the deeds of your fathers; for they indeed killed them, and you build their tombs.

" [You] stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers [did,] so [do] you.

"Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers,

" And the LORD heard the sound of your words, and was angry, and took an oath, saying,

'Surely not one of these men of this evil generation shall see that good land of which I swore to give to your fathers,

"And after all that has come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great guilt, since You our God have punished us less than our iniquities [deserve,] and have given us [such] deliverance as this,

"should we again break Your commandments, and join in marriage with the people [committing] these abominations? Would You not be angry with us until You had consumed [us,] so that [there would be] no remnant or survivor?

Then Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, "You have transgressed and have taken pagan wives, adding to the guilt of Israel.

"Did not your fathers do thus, and did not our God bring all this disaster on us and on this city? Yet you bring added wrath on Israel by profaning the Sabbath."

"Behold, [it is] written before Me: I will not keep silence, but will repay -- Even repay into their bosom --

Your iniquities and the iniquities of your fathers together," Says the LORD, "Who have burned incense on the mountains And blasphemed Me on the hills; Therefore I will measure their former work into their bosom."
