So Moab said to the elders of Midian, "Now this company will lick up everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field." And Balak the son of Zippor [was] king of the Moabites at that time.

all the cities of the plain and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses had struck with the princes of Midian: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, who [were] princes of Sihon dwelling in the country.

The children of Israel also killed with the sword Balaam the son of Beor, the soothsayer, among those who were killed by them.

And the name of the Midianite woman who was killed [was] Cozbi the daughter of Zur; he [was] head of the people of a father's house in Midian.

"for they harassed you with their schemes by which they seduced you in the matter of Peor and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a leader of Midian, their sister, who was killed in the day of the plague because of Peor."

So Balaam said to God, "Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent to me, [saying,]

So Balaam rose and departed and returned to his place; Balak also went his way.

The children of Israel also killed with the sword Balaam the son of Beor, the soothsayer, among those who were killed by them.

The LORD is known [by] the judgment He executes; The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Meditation. Selah

The wicked in [his] pride persecutes the poor; Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and [into] many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.

For the love of money is a root of all [kinds of] evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the [son] of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

"But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.

Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.
