And at that time Joshua came and cut off the Anakim from the mountains: from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel; Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.

None of the Anakim were left in the land of the children of Israel; they remained only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod.

Now to Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a share among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, [namely,] Kirjath Arba, which [is] Hebron ([Arba was] the father of Anak).

Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak from there: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

Then Judah went against the Canaanites who dwelt in Hebron. (Now the name of Hebron [was] formerly Kirjath Arba.) And they killed Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.

Then Abram moved [his] tent, and went and dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre, which [are] in Hebron, and built an altar there to the LORD.

So Sarah died in Kirjath Arba (that [is,] Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.

And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance.

And the name of Hebron formerly was Kirjath Arba ([Arba was] the greatest man among the Anakim). Then the land had rest from war.

Thus to the children of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron with its common-land (a city of refuge for the slayer), Libnah with its common-land,

It happened after this that David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah?" And the LORD said to him, "Go up." David said, "Where shall I go up?" And He said, "To Hebron."

And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

Marvelous things He did in the sight of their fathers, In the land of Egypt, [in] the field of Zoan.

When He worked His signs in Egypt, And His wonders in the field of Zoan;

Surely the princes of Zoan [are] fools; Pharaoh's wise counselors give foolish counsel. How do you say to Pharaoh, "I [am] the son of the wise, The son of ancient kings?"

For his princes were at Zoan, And his ambassadors came to Hanes.
