Then [Jacob] also went in to Rachel, and he also loved Rachel more than Leah. And he served with Laban still another seven years.

When the LORD saw that Leah [was] unloved, He opened her womb; but Rachel [was] barren.

" If a man has two wives, one loved and the other unloved, and they have borne him children, [both] the loved and the unloved, and [if] the firstborn son is of her who is unloved,

"then it shall be, on the day he bequeaths his possessions to his sons, [that] he must not bestow firstborn status on the son of the loved wife in preference to the son of the unloved, the [true] firstborn.

"If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

Its streams shall be turned into pitch, And its dust into brimstone; Its land shall become burning pitch.

But the pelican and the porcupine shall possess it, Also the owl and the raven shall dwell in it. And He shall stretch out over it The line of confusion and the stones of emptiness.

"therefore prophesy, and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Because they made [you] desolate and swallowed you up on every side, so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations, and you are taken up by the lips of talkers and slandered by the people" --

'therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD! Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains, the hills, the rivers, the valleys, the desolate wastes, and the cities that have been forsaken, which became plunder and mockery to the rest of the nations all around --

'Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: "I have raised My hand in an oath that surely the nations that [are] around you shall bear their own shame.

"For indeed I [am] for you, and I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown.

"therefore you shall devour men no more, nor bereave your nation anymore," says the Lord GOD.

"Nor will I let you hear the taunts of the nations anymore, nor bear the reproach of the peoples anymore, nor shall you cause your nation to stumble anymore," says the Lord GOD.' "

"Egypt shall be a desolation, And Edom a desolate wilderness, Because of violence [against] the people of Judah, For they have shed innocent blood in their land.

" For violence against your brother Jacob, Shame shall cover you, And you shall be cut off forever.

The house of Jacob shall be a fire, And the house of Joseph a flame; But the house of Esau [shall be] stubble; They shall kindle them and devour them, And no survivor shall [remain] of the house of Esau," For the LORD has spoken.

The South shall possess the mountains of Esau, And the Lowland shall possess Philistia. They shall possess the fields of Ephraim And the fields of Samaria. Benjamin [shall possess] Gilead.

Then saviors shall come to Mount Zion To judge the mountains of Esau, And the kingdom shall be the LORD's.

But wild beasts of the desert will lie there, And their houses will be full of owls; Ostriches will dwell there, And wild goats will caper there.

The hyenas will howl in their citadels, And jackals in their pleasant palaces. Her time [is] near to come, And her days will not be prolonged."

And thorns shall come up in its palaces, Nettles and brambles in its fortresses; It shall be a habitation of jackals, A courtyard for ostriches.

The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the jackals, And the wild goat shall bleat to its companion; Also the night creature shall rest there, And find for herself a place of rest.

The parched ground shall become a pool, And the thirsty land springs of water; In the habitation of jackals, where each lay, [There shall be] grass with reeds and rushes.

"I will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, a den of jackals. I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant."

Babylon shall become a heap, A dwelling place for jackals, An astonishment and a hissing, Without an inhabitant.
