' If one of your brethren becomes poor, and has sold [some] of his possession, and if his redeeming relative comes to redeem it, then he may redeem what his brother sold.

" If there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of the gates in your land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother,

"but you shall open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him sufficient for his need, whatever he needs.

The poor [man] is hated even by his own neighbor, But the rich [has] many friends.

He who despises his neighbor sins; But he who has mercy on the poor, happy [is] he.

He who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker; He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.

He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, And He will pay back what he has given.

"For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good; but Me you do not have always.

"For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always."

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world [to be] rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?

But you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts?

[He is] ever merciful, and lends; And his descendants [are] blessed.

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Blessed [is] he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.

A good man deals graciously and lends; He will guide his affairs with discretion.

He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever; His horn will be exalted with honor.

He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.

"But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.

Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea.

If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.

Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head."

Now concerning the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you;

For the administration of this service not only supplies the needs of the saints, but also is abounding through many thanksgivings to God,

and by their prayer for you, who long for you because of the exceeding grace of God in you.

[They desired] only that we should remember the poor, the very thing which I also was eager to do.

But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?

'The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I [am] the LORD your God.

"Also you shall not oppress a stranger, for you know the heart of a stranger, because you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

"He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing.

"Therefore love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

'for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so [doing] some have unwittingly entertained angels.
