Just as I saw Ephraim like Tyre, planted in a pleasant place, So Ephraim will bring out his children to the murderer."

Ephraim is stricken, Their root is dried up; They shall bear no fruit. Yes, were they to bear children, I would kill the darlings of their womb."

"Your sons and your daughters [shall be] given to another people, and your eyes shall look and fail [with longing] for them all day long; and [there shall be] no strength in your hand.

"You shall beget sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours; for they shall go into captivity.

"Locusts shall consume all your trees and the produce of your land.

The sword shall destroy outside; [There shall be] terror within For the young man and virgin, The nursing child with the man of gray hairs.

If his children are multiplied, [it is] for the sword; And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.

And I will winnow them with a winnowing fan in the gates of the land; I will bereave [them] of children; I will destroy My people, [Since] they do not return from their ways.

For thus says the LORD concerning the sons and daughters who are born in this place, and concerning their mothers who bore them and their fathers who begot them in this land:

"They shall die gruesome deaths; they shall not be lamented nor shall they be buried, [but] they shall be like refuse on the face of the earth. They shall be consumed by the sword and by famine, and their corpses shall be meat for the birds of heaven and for the beasts of the earth."

" See, O LORD, and consider! To whom have You done this? Should the women eat their offspring, The children they have cuddled? Should the priest and prophet be slain In the sanctuary of the Lord?

For the LORD had said of them, "They shall surely die in the wilderness." So there was not left a man of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

But Barak pursued the chariots and the army as far as Harosheth Hagoyim, and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; not a man was left.

What will you do in the appointed day, And in the day of the feast of the LORD?

For indeed they are gone because of destruction. Egypt shall gather them up; Memphis shall bury them. Nettles shall possess their valuables of silver; Thorns [shall be] in their tents.

" Woe to them, for they have fled from Me! Destruction to them, Because they have transgressed against Me! Though I redeemed them, Yet they have spoken lies against Me.

"Then My anger shall be aroused against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide My face from them, and they shall be devoured. And many evils and troubles shall befall them, so that they will say in that day, 'Have not these evils come upon us because our God [is] not among us?'

But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the LORD troubled him.

Now Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" And Saul answered, "I am deeply distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God has departed from me and does not answer me anymore, neither by prophets nor by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may reveal to me what I should do."

Then Samuel said: "Why then do you ask me, seeing the LORD has departed from you and has become your enemy?

Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them from His sight; there was none left but the tribe of Judah alone.

until the LORD removed Israel out of His sight, as He had said by all His servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away from their own land to Assyria, [as it is] to this day.
