" For thus says the LORD: 'Your affliction [is] incurable, Your wound [is] severe.

All your lovers have forgotten you; They do not seek you; For I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, With the chastisement of a cruel one, For the multitude of your iniquities, [Because] your sins have increased.

For her wounds [are] incurable. For it has come to Judah; It has come to the gate of My people -- To Jerusalem.

" Ephraim also is like a silly dove, without sense -- They call to Egypt, They go to Assyria.

[The idol] also shall be carried to Assyria [As] a present for King Jareb. Ephraim shall receive shame, And Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.

"Ephraim feeds on the wind, And pursues the east wind; He daily increases lies and desolation. Also they make a covenant with the Assyrians, And oil is carried to Egypt.

Pul king of Assyria came against the land; and Menahem gave Pul a thousand talents of silver, that his hand might be with him to strengthen the kingdom under his control.

In the days of Pekah king of Israel, Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria came and took Ijon, Abel Beth Maachah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor, Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali; and he carried them captive to Assyria.

So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria, saying, "I [am] your servant and your son. Come up and save me from the hand of the king of Syria and from the hand of the king of Israel, who rise up against me."

At the same time King Ahaz sent to the kings of Assyria to help him.

The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the lowland and of the South of Judah, and had taken Beth Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Sochoh with its villages, Timnah with its villages, and Gimzo with its villages; and they dwelt there.

Also Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria came to him and distressed him, and did not assist him.

For Ahaz took part [of the treasures] from the house of the LORD, from the house of the king, and from the leaders, and he gave [it] to the king of Assyria; but he did not help him.

Why do you cry about your affliction? Your sorrow [is] incurable. Because of the multitude of your iniquities, [Because] your sins have increased, I have done these things to you.
