Now I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, And no one shall deliver her from My hand.

Your nakedness shall be uncovered, Yes, your shame will be seen; I will take vengeance, And I will not arbitrate with a man."

And if you say in your heart, "Why have these things come upon me?" For the greatness of your iniquity Your skirts have been uncovered, Your heels made bare.

Therefore I will uncover your skirts over your face, That your shame may appear.

"surely, therefore, I will gather all your lovers with whom you took pleasure, all those you loved, [and] all those you hated; I will gather them from all around against you and will uncover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness.

"I will also give you into their hand, and they shall throw down your shrines and break down your high places. They shall also strip you of your clothes, take your beautiful jewelry, and leave you naked and bare.

"For thus says the Lord GOD: 'Surely I will deliver you into the hand of those you hate, into the hand [of those] from whom you alienated yourself.

"And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire.

"[As for] your nativity, on the day you were born your navel cord was not cut, nor were you washed in water to cleanse [you;] you were not rubbed with salt nor wrapped in swaddling cloths.

" And when I passed by you and saw you struggling in your own blood, I said to you in your blood, 'Live!' Yes, I said to you in your blood, 'Live!'

"When I passed by you again and looked upon you, indeed your time [was] the time of love; so I spread My wing over you and covered your nakedness. Yes, I swore an oath to you and entered into a covenant with you, and you became Mine," says the Lord GOD.

On the land of my people will come up thorns [and] briers, Yes, on all the happy homes [in] the joyous city;

Because the palaces will be forsaken, The bustling city will be deserted. The forts and towers will become lairs forever, A joy of wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks --

The earth mourns [and] languishes, Lebanon is shamed [and] shriveled; Sharon is like a wilderness, And Bashan and Carmel shake off [their fruits.]

Your holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.

"O generation, see the word of the LORD! Have I been a wilderness to Israel, Or a land of darkness? Why do My people say, 'We are lords; We will come no more to You'?

I beheld, and indeed the fruitful land [was] a wilderness, And all its cities were broken down At the presence of the LORD, By His fierce anger.

"Many rulers have destroyed My vineyard, They have trodden My portion underfoot; They have made My pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

For thus says the LORD to the house of the king of Judah: "You [are] Gilead to Me, The head of Lebanon; [Yet] I surely will make you a wilderness, Cities [which] are not inhabited.

And now she [is] planted in the wilderness, In a dry and thirsty land.

"And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will plead My case with you face to face.

"Just as I pleaded My case with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will plead My case with you," says the Lord GOD.

Neither did they say, 'Where [is] the LORD, Who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, Who led us through the wilderness, Through a land of deserts and pits, Through a land of drought and the shadow of death, Through a land that no one crossed And where no one dwelt?'

For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, [In] a salt land [which is] not inhabited.

Her cities are a desolation, A dry land and a wilderness, A land where no one dwells, Through which no son of man passes.

And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, and said, "Why [is] it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?"

Then he became very thirsty; so he cried out to the LORD and said, "You have given this great deliverance by the hand of Your servant; and now shall I die of thirst and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?"

" Behold, the days are coming," says the Lord GOD, "That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the LORD.

"In that day the fair virgins And strong young men Shall faint from thirst.
