That the triumphing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the hypocrite is [but] for a moment?

[Yet] he will perish forever like his own refuse; Those who have seen him will say, 'Where is he?'

I have seen the wicked in great power, And spreading himself like a native green tree.

Yet he passed away, and behold, he [was] no [more;] Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found.

Those who trust in their wealth And boast in the multitude of their riches,

For the redemption of their souls [is] costly, And it shall cease forever --

For he sees wise men die; Likewise the fool and the senseless person perish, And leave their wealth to others.

Nevertheless man, [though] in honor, does not remain; He is like the beasts [that] perish.

Until I went into the sanctuary of God; [Then] I understood their end.

Oh, how they are [brought] to desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.

"But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?'

"After this I looked, and there was another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird. The beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it.

Therefore the male goat grew very great; but when he became strong, the large horn was broken, and in place of it four notable ones came up toward the four winds of heaven.

"As for the broken [horn] and the four that stood up in its place, four kingdoms shall arise out of that nation, but not with its power.

Surely every man walks about like a shadow; Surely they busy themselves in vain; He heaps up [riches,] And does not know who will gather them.

Then I hated all my labor in which I had toiled under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who will come after me.

And who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will rule over all my labor in which I toiled and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also [is] vanity.

There is one alone, without companion: He has neither son nor brother. Yet [there is] no end to all his labors, Nor is his eye satisfied with riches. [But he never asks,] "For whom do I toil and deprive myself of good?" This also [is] vanity and a grave misfortune.

But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.

"I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, [were] eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words.

"Then it shall be, after I have plucked them out, that I will return and have compassion on them and bring them back, everyone to his heritage and everyone to his land.

"But if they do not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation," says the LORD.

"The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy [it,]

"And the whole valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes, and all the fields as far as the Brook Kidron, to the corner of the Horse Gate toward the east, [shall be] holy to the LORD. It shall not be plucked up or thrown down anymore forever."

"Thus you shall say to him, 'Thus says the LORD: "Behold, what I have built I will break down, and what I have planted I will pluck up, that is, this whole land.
