Those who ate delicacies Are desolate in the streets; Those who were brought up in scarlet Embrace ash heaps.

The face of the LORD scattered them; He no longer regards them. [The people] do not respect the priests Nor show favor to the elders.

Princes were hung up by their hands, And elders were not respected.

The elders have ceased [gathering at] the gate, And the young men from their music.

So they sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that [his] grief was very great.

Her gates shall lament and mourn, And she [being] desolate shall sit on the ground.

"Come down and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon; Sit on the ground without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans! For you shall no more be called Tender and delicate.

" Sit in silence, and go into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans; For you shall no longer be called The Lady of Kingdoms.

Let him sit alone and keep silent, Because [God] has laid [it] on him;

Therefore the prudent keep silent at that time, For it [is] an evil time.

And the songs of the temple Shall be wailing in that day," Says the Lord GOD -- "Many dead bodies everywhere, They shall be thrown out in silence."

They will also be girded with sackcloth; Horror will cover them; Shame [will be] on every face, Baldness on all their heads.

They will shave themselves completely bald because of you, Gird themselves with sackcloth, And weep for you With bitterness of heart [and] bitter wailing.

Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth For the husband of her youth.

The roads to Zion mourn Because no one comes to the set feasts. All her gates are desolate; Her priests sigh, Her virgins are afflicted, And she [is] in bitterness.

"In that day the fair virgins And strong young men Shall faint from thirst.
