He who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker; He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.

"They have heard that I sigh, [But] no one comforts me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; They are glad that You have done [it.] Bring on the day You have announced, That they may become like me.

All who pass by clap [their] hands at you; They hiss and shake their heads At the daughter of Jerusalem: "[Is] this the city that is called 'The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth'?"

All your enemies have opened their mouth against you; They hiss and gnash [their] teeth. They say, "We have swallowed [her] up! Surely this [is] the day we have waited for; We have found [it,] we have seen [it!"]

Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, [You] who dwell in the land of Uz! The cup shall also pass over to you And you shall become drunk and make yourself naked.

[The punishment of] your iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; He will no longer send you into captivity. He will punish your iniquity, O daughter of Edom; He will uncover your sins!

"Say to the Ammonites, 'Hear the word of the Lord GOD! Thus says the Lord GOD: "Because you said, 'Aha!' against My sanctuary when it was profaned, and against the land of Israel when it was desolate, and against the house of Judah when they went into captivity,

"And I will make Rabbah a stable for camels and Ammon a resting place for flocks. Then you shall know that I [am] the LORD."

"indeed, therefore, I will stretch out My hand against you, and give you as plunder to the nations; I will cut you off from the peoples, and I will cause you to perish from the countries; I will destroy you, and you shall know that I [am] the LORD."

' Thus says the Lord GOD: "Because the Philistines dealt vengefully and took vengeance with a spiteful heart, to destroy because of the old hatred,"

"I will execute great vengeance on them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I [am] the LORD, when I lay My vengeance upon them." ' "

"Son of man, because Tyre has said against Jerusalem, 'Aha! She is broken who [was] the gateway of the peoples; now she is turned over to me; I shall be filled; she is laid waste.'

"Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: 'Behold, I [am] against you, O Tyre, and will cause many nations to come up against you, as the sea causes its waves to come up.

But you should not have gazed on the day of your brother In the day of his captivity; Nor should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah In the day of their destruction; Nor should you have spoken proudly In the day of distress.

" Israel [is] like scattered sheep; The lions have driven [him] away. First the king of Assyria devoured him; Now at last this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones."

" Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon Has devoured me, he has crushed me; He has made me an empty vessel, He has swallowed me up like a monster; He has filled his stomach with my delicacies, He has spit me out.

Let the violence [done] to me and my flesh [be] upon Babylon," The inhabitant of Zion will say; "And my blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea!" Jerusalem will say.

Remember Your congregation, [which] You have purchased of old, The tribe of Your inheritance, [which] You have redeemed -- This Mount Zion where You have dwelt.

Your enemies roar in the midst of Your meeting place; They set up their banners [for] signs.

And now they break down its carved work, all at once, With axes and hammers.

They said in their hearts, "Let us destroy them altogether." They have burned up all the meeting places of God in the land.

A Psalm of Asaph. O God, the nations have come into Your inheritance; Your holy temple they have defiled; They have laid Jerusalem in heaps.

Their blood they have shed like water all around Jerusalem, And [there was] no one to bury [them.]

A Song. A Psalm of Asaph. Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, And do not be still, O God!

They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones.

For they have consulted together with one consent; They form a confederacy against You:

I will send him against an ungodly nation, And against the people of My wrath I will give him charge, To seize the spoil, to take the prey, And to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

Yet he does not mean so, Nor does his heart think so; But [it is] in his heart to destroy, And cut off not a few nations.

I was angry with My people; I have profaned My inheritance, And given them into your hand. You showed them no mercy; On the elderly you laid your yoke very heavily.

For thus says the LORD of hosts: "He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.

"For surely I will shake My hand against them, and they shall become spoil for their servants. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me.

Behold, the day of the LORD is coming, And your spoil will be divided in your midst.

Then the LORD will go forth And fight against those nations, As He fights in the day of battle.

Slay all her bulls, Let them go down to the slaughter. Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their punishment.

Also her mercenaries are in her midst like fat bulls, For they also are turned back, They have fled away together. They did not stand, For the day of their calamity had come upon them, The time of their punishment.

" But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; You grew fat, you grew thick, You are obese! Then he forsook God [who] made him, And scornfully esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

Many bulls have surrounded Me; Strong [bulls] of Bashan have encircled Me.

Ephraim [is] a trained heifer That loves to thresh [grain;] But I harnessed her fair neck, I will make Ephraim pull [a plow.] Judah shall plow; Jacob shall break his clods."

Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who [are] on the mountain of Samaria, Who oppress the poor, Who crush the needy, Who say to your husbands, "Bring [wine,] let us drink!"

They have grown fat, they are sleek; Yes, they surpass the deeds of the wicked; They do not plead the cause, The cause of the fatherless; Yet they prosper, And the right of the needy they do not defend.

They were [like] well-fed lusty stallions; Every one neighed after his neighbor's wife.
