The plunderers have come On all the desolate heights in the wilderness, For the sword of the LORD shall devour From [one] end of the land to the [other] end of the land; No flesh shall have peace.

"And I will appoint over them four forms [of destruction,"] says the LORD: "the sword to slay, the dogs to drag, the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the earth to devour and destroy.

" Therefore you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: "Drink, be drunk, and vomit! Fall and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you." '

" You [are] My battle-ax [and] weapons of war: For with you I will break the nation in pieces; With you I will destroy kingdoms;

With you also I will break in pieces man and woman; With you I will break in pieces old and young; With you I will break in pieces the young man and the maiden;

If I whet My glittering sword, And My hand takes hold on judgment, I will render vengeance to My enemies, And repay those who hate Me.

I will make My arrows drunk with blood, And My sword shall devour flesh, With the blood of the slain and the captives, From the heads of the leaders of the enemy." '

Arise, O LORD, Confront him, cast him down; Deliver my life from the wicked with Your sword,

" Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger And the staff in whose hand is My indignation.

Shall the ax boast itself against him who chops with it? [Or] shall the saw exalt itself against him who saws with it? As if a rod could wield [itself] against those who lift it up, [Or] as if a staff could lift up, [as if it were] not wood!

" Or [if] I bring a sword on that land, and say, 'Sword, go through the land,' and I cut off man and beast from it,

"and say to the land of Israel, 'Thus says the LORD: "Behold, I [am] against you, and I will draw My sword out of its sheath and cut off both righteous and wicked from you.

"that all flesh may know that I, the LORD, have drawn My sword out of its sheath; it shall not return anymore." '

How long will I see the standard, [And] hear the sound of the trumpet?

How long will the land mourn, And the herbs of every field wither? The beasts and birds are consumed, For the wickedness of those who dwell there, Because they said, "He will not see our final end."

Then Abner called to Joab and said, "Shall the sword devour forever? Do you not know that it will be bitter in the latter end? How long will it be then until you tell the people to return from pursuing their brethren?"

So the LORD commanded the angel, and he returned his sword to its sheath.

'Return [it] to its sheath. I will judge you In the place where you were created, In the land of your nativity.

So Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?"
