The snorting of His horses was heard from Dan. The whole land trembled at the sound of the neighing of His strong ones; For they have come and devoured the land and all that is in it, The city and those who dwell in it."

Come up, O horses, and rage, O chariots! And let the mighty men come forth: The Ethiopians and the Libyans who handle the shield, And the Lydians who handle [and] bend the bow.

Then the horses' hooves pounded, The galloping, galloping of his steeds.

"Have you given the horse strength? Have you clothed his neck with thunder?

He paws in the valley, and rejoices in [his] strength; He gallops into the clash of arms.

The quiver rattles against him, The glittering spear and javelin.

At the [blast of] the trumpet he says, 'Aha!' He smells the battle from afar, The thunder of captains and shouting.

'Because of the abundance of his horses, their dust will cover you; your walls will shake at the noise of the horsemen, the wagons, and the chariots, when he enters your gates, as men enter a city that has been breached.

'With the hooves of his horses he will trample all your streets; he will slay your people by the sword, and your strong pillars will fall to the ground.

The chariots rage in the streets, They jostle one another in the broad roads; They seem like torches, They run like lightning.

The noise of a whip And the noise of rattling wheels, Of galloping horses, Of clattering chariots!

Horsemen charge with bright sword and glittering spear. [There is] a multitude of slain, A great number of bodies, Countless corpses -- They stumble over the corpses --

"The sensitive and very refined man among you will be hostile toward his brother, toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the rest of his children whom he leaves behind,

"so that he will not give any of them the flesh of his children whom he will eat, because he has nothing left in the siege and desperate straits in which your enemy shall distress you at all your gates.

Even the jackals present their breasts To nurse their young; [But] the daughter of my people [is] cruel, Like ostriches in the wilderness.

The tongue of the infant clings To the roof of its mouth for thirst; The young children ask for bread, [But] no one breaks [it] for them.
