Now Pashhur the son of Immer, the priest who [was] also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things.

And it happened on the next day that Pashhur brought Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, "The LORD has not called your name Pashhur, but Magor-Missabib.

So the princes and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, "This man does not deserve to die. For he has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God."

"And the vinedressers took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another.

"Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: [some] of them you will kill and crucify, and [some] of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,

Then they spat in His face and beat Him; and others struck [Him] with the palms of their hands,

saying, "Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is the one who struck You?"

"Now at vintage-time he sent a servant to the vinedressers, that they might give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the vinedressers beat him and sent [him] away empty-handed.

"Again he sent another servant; and they beat him also, treated [him] shamefully, and sent [him] away empty-handed.

And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?"

And when He had said these things, one of the officers who stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, "Do You answer the high priest like that?"

saying, "Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man's blood on us!"

And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten [them,] they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded [them] to be beaten with rods.

Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

And the high priest Ananias commanded those who stood by him to strike him on the mouth.

Then Paul said to him, "God will strike you, [you] whitewashed wall! For you sit to judge me according to the law, and do you command me to be struck contrary to the law?"

Are they ministers of Christ? -- I speak as a fool -- I [am] more: in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths often.

Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep;

in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness --

Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment.

of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, [in] dens and caves of the earth.

Then Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners [were] confined. And he was there in the prison.

Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in prison, for [he was] enraged at him because of this. And Asa oppressed [some] of the people at that time.

"and say, 'Thus says the king: "Put this [fellow] in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction until I return in peace." ' "

and laid their hands on the apostles and put them in the common prison.

So when he had arrested him, he put [him] in prison, and delivered [him] to four squads of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him before the people after Passover.

And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were keeping the prison.

"Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw [some] of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

"Therefore please hear now, O my lord the king. Please, let my petition be accepted before you, and do not make me return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there."

So they took Jeremiah and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king's son, which [was] in the court of the prison, and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. And in the dungeon [there was] no water, but mire. So Jeremiah sank in the mire.

"then you shall say to them, 'I presented my request before the king, that he would not make me return to Jonathan's house to die there.' "
