The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army, all the kingdoms of the earth under his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem and all its cities, saying,

Declare in Judah and proclaim in Jerusalem, and say: "Blow the trumpet in the land; Cry, 'Gather together,' And say, 'Assemble yourselves, And let us go into the fortified cities.'

"Why do we sit still? Assemble yourselves, And let us enter the fortified cities, And let us be silent there. For the LORD our God has put us to silence And given us water of gall to drink, Because we have sinned against the LORD.

"Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods to whom they offer incense, but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

"They shall besiege you at all your gates until your high and fortified walls, in which you trust, come down throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you at all your gates throughout all your land which the LORD your God has given you.

Therefore Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon, saying,

And it happened, as they fled before Israel [and] were on the descent of Beth Horon, that the LORD cast down large hailstones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. [There were] more who died from the hailstones than the children of Israel killed with the sword.

the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one;

Jarmuth, Adullam, Socoh, Azekah,

Lachish, Bozkath, Eglon,

And in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.

Then Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, "I have done wrong; turn away from me; whatever you impose on me I will pay." And the king of Assyria assessed Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

Then [the] Rabshakeh returned and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah, for he heard that he had departed from Lachish.

O inhabitant of Lachish, Harness the chariot to the swift steeds (She [was] the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion), For the transgressions of Israel were found in you.

So Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.

Beth Zur, Sochoh, Adullam,

Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,

Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built fortresses and towers.
