So it was, when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his body, and fasted and lay in sackcloth, and went about mourning.

"See how Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring the calamity in his days. In the days of his son I will bring the calamity on his house."

And the LORD said to Jehu, "Because you have done well in doing [what is] right in My sight, [and] have done to the house of Ahab all that [was] in My heart, your sons shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth [generation."]

But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart; for he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam, who had made Israel sin.

Jehoash did [what was] right in the sight of the LORD all the days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

And he did [what was] right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like his father David; he did everything as his father Joash had done.

Yet they seek Me daily, And delight to know My ways, As a nation that did righteousness, And did not forsake the ordinance of their God. They ask of Me the ordinances of justice; They take delight in approaching God.

'These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with [their] lips, But their heart is far from Me.

Now when all the princes and all the people, who had entered into the covenant, heard that everyone should set free his male and female slaves, that no one should keep them in bondage anymore, they obeyed and let [them] go.

But afterward they changed their minds and made the male and female slaves return, whom they had set free, and brought them into subjection as male and female slaves.

[This is] the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people who [were] at Jerusalem to proclaim liberty to them:

Then the king stood by a pillar and made a covenant before the LORD, to follow the LORD and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes, with all [his] heart and all [his] soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people took a stand for the covenant.

these joined with their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a curse and an oath to walk in God's Law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the LORD our Lord, and His ordinances and His statutes:

Make vows to the LORD your God, and pay [them;] Let all who are around Him bring presents to Him who ought to be feared.

I have sworn and confirmed That I will keep Your righteous judgments.

"and [then] come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say, 'We are delivered to do all these abominations'?

"Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of thieves in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen [it,"] says the LORD.
