Therefore a lion from the forest shall slay them, A wolf of the deserts shall destroy them; A leopard will watch over their cities. Everyone who goes out from there shall be torn in pieces, Because their transgressions are many; Their backslidings have increased.

" Therefore prophesy against them all these words, and say to them: 'The LORD will roar from on high, And utter His voice from His holy habitation; He will roar mightily against His fold. He will give a shout, as those who tread [the grapes,] Against all the inhabitants of the earth.

" Israel [is] like scattered sheep; The lions have driven [him] away. First the king of Assyria devoured him; Now at last this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones."

So Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother, and came to the vineyards of Timnah. Now [to his] surprise, a young lion [came] roaring against him.

The roaring of the lion, The voice of the fierce lion, And the teeth of the young lions are broken.

My soul [is] among lions; I lie [among] the sons of men Who are set on fire, Whose teeth [are] spears and arrows, And their tongue a sharp sword.

Their roaring [will be] like a lion, They will roar like young lions; Yes, they will roar And lay hold of the prey; They will carry [it] away safely, And no one will deliver.

For I [will be] like a lion to Ephraim, And like a young lion to the house of Judah. I, [even] I, will tear [them] and go away; I will take [them] away, and no one shall rescue.

"They shall walk after the LORD. He will roar like a lion. When He roars, Then [His] sons shall come trembling from the west;

"So I will be to them like a lion; Like a leopard by the road I will lurk;

I will meet them like a bear deprived [of her cubs;] I will tear open their rib cage, And there I will devour them like a lion. The wild beast shall tear them.

Will a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey? Will a young lion cry out of his den, if he has caught nothing?

A lion has roared! Who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken! Who can but prophesy?

Thus says the LORD: "As a shepherd takes from the mouth of a lion Two legs or a piece of an ear, So shall the children of Israel be taken out Who dwell in Samaria -- In the corner of a bed and on the edge of a couch!

Where [is] the dwelling of the lions, And the feeding place of the young lions, Where the lion walked, the lioness [and] lion's cub, And no one made [them] afraid?

Your country [is] desolate, Your cities [are] burned with fire; Strangers devour your land in your presence; And [it is] desolate, as overthrown by strangers.

Behold, the LORD makes the earth empty and makes it waste, Distorts its surface And scatters abroad its inhabitants.

'Moreover I will make you a waste and a reproach among the nations that [are] all around you, in the sight of all who pass by.

The lion has come up from his thicket, And the destroyer of nations is on his way. He has gone forth from his place To make your land desolate. Your cities will be laid waste, Without inhabitant.

"I will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, a den of jackals. I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant."

"Why have you prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, 'This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without an inhabitant'?" And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.

" Thus says the LORD: 'Again there shall be heard in this place -- of which you say, "It [is] desolate, without man and without beast" -- in the cities of Judah, in the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without beast,

'Behold, I will command,' says the LORD, 'and cause them to return to this city. They will fight against it and take it and burn it with fire; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without inhabitant.' "

"So the LORD could no longer bear [it,] because of the evil of your doings [and] because of the abominations which you committed. Therefore your land is a desolation, an astonishment, a curse, and without an inhabitant, as [it is] this day.

In my hearing the LORD of hosts [said,] "Truly, many houses shall be desolate, Great and beautiful ones, without inhabitant.

Then I said, "Lord, how long?" And He answered: "Until the cities are laid waste and without inhabitant, The houses are without a man, The land is utterly desolate,

Neither their silver nor their gold Shall be able to deliver them In the day of the LORD's wrath; But the whole land shall be devoured By the fire of His jealousy, For He will make speedy riddance Of all those who dwell in the land.

Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast, The nation of the Cherethites! The word of the LORD [is] against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines: "I will destroy you; So there shall be no inhabitant."

"I have cut off nations, Their fortresses are devastated; I have made their streets desolate, With none passing by. Their cities are destroyed; [There is] no one, no inhabitant.
